REGIONAL TECHNICAL MEETING IN ACCRA ON COMPONENT ONE OF FSRP

In July 2024, CILSS being the regional lead of Component One of the FSRP, organized a regional engagement of participating countries for technical discussion on this component. All countries in the two phases of the FSRP participated in the meeting. Given the language diversity, two separate sessions were organized: one for French countries and another for English countries. Sierra Leone and Ghana were part of the English session, which was held on the 4th and 5th of July 2024. 

The main objective of this technical meeting was to contribute to a better implementation of the activities of Component One of the FSRP and aimed at strengthening the coordination of actions under the component, and to discuss the needs of the main players involved in its implementation, in line with the FSRP project indicators. Specifically, the session. 

• Analyse the levels of achievement of project indicators, both at country and regional level, and rediscuss (if necessary) the methods of their calculation for greater harmony and precision, 
• Share and discuss successes and difficulties encountered in implementing project activities, at both country and regional levels, 
• Propose and validate suitable solution options to resolve the difficulties identified, 
• Categorize and prioritize country needs in the context of implementing FSRP Component 1 activities, and define appropriate implementation options for countries and the regional level, 
• Share the guide on AGRHYMET RCC-WAS services and offers for countries and academic and private entities, 
• Formulate relevant recommendations for accelerating the implementation of project activities, 
• Draw up a roadmap for the implementation of new orientations and actions 

During the session, presentations were delivered by the regional organization and the participating countries on progress of component one activities with key challenges and way forward, and discussions held on specific topics related to component one including indicators. 

The session generated key takeaways and proffered key actions and recommendations going forward in the implementation. These are expected to enhance countries performance on delivering component one. It is agreed that this meeting will be held annually to do follow-up on countries performance and alignment with agreed actions and recommendations.
